July 1st: Old Timers Parade- the Blue Ridge Business Association will hold a traditional celebration of the Old Timers Parade on Saturday July 1 in downtown Blue Ridge. To participate, please call Barbara Bane at 706-632-8995 or e-mail uic@etcmail.com.

July 1st: Old Time Celebration- Celebrate the 4th of July as well as the state park system’s 75th anniversary with some old time fun Saturday July 1st, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tugaloo State Park, in Lavonia, GA. A 10 a.m. bicycle parade through the campground will be followed with 2 p.m. games and relays in the ball field. Meet at the beach at 4 p.m. for a putt-putt tournament and prizes. $2 for putt-putt, plus $3 parking. For more information, call 706-356-4362.

July 1st: Patriotic Concert- The Georgia Air National Guard Band of the South will be performing patriotic songs as part of the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association’s annual Concerts in the Park summer series Saturday, July 1st at 6:30pm in the downtown park. No admission charge.

July 1st: Silverhawk, a master Native American flute player of Cherokee descent, will be in full regalia as he performs July 1st at 8 p.m. in an outdoor theater at Vogel State Park, 11 miles south of Blairsville. Silverhawk is the Native American chaplain at Tampa General Hospital in Florida. For more information, call the park at 706-745-2628

July 1st: Blue Ridge Fireworks- A fireworks show will be held on Saturday, July 1st, at dusk at the Lake Blue Ridge Marina.

July 1st and 2nd: All American Event- An All American Happy Days event will be held at Amicalola Falls State Park July 1st and 2nd. Activities include playing old-fashioned games and making patriotic crafts. For more information, call 706-265-4703

July 3rd: Twin Cities Fireworks- A fireworks display will be held in the twin cities of Copperhill and McCaysville on Monday, July 3rd, at 9:30 p.m. from Tater Hill.

July 4th: Epworth 4th of July- Old Fashioned Fourth of July events will be held on July 4 in Epworth, Ga. Activities will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a pancake breakfast, music, bingo, and hay rides. For more information, call 706-632-3778

July 4th: Meeks Park Fireworks- A fireworks show will be held at Meeks Park in Blairsville on Tuesday, July 4 at dusk. For more information call 706-745-5789

July 4th: Dahlonega 4th Events- Family Day Independence Day Celebration will be held July 4, in Dahlonega, Ga. Activities include a flag-raising ceremony, patriotic speeches, bluegrass, folk and country gospel music, arts and crafts demonstrations, food, gold panning, fireworks display at North Georgia College. July 4th: Mountain Style 4th at Unicoi State Park, from 1-8 p.m. During the afternoon, enjoy field activities and races, watermelon seed spitting contests and a greased pole climb. Pickin’ In The Park- Pickin’ in the Park is held every Thursday from 6pm to dusk at Ron Henry Horseshoe Bend Park alongside the Toccoa River, 1 ½ miles upstream from McCaysville, Ga., on River Road. This is a free event. Acoustic music jam sessions are held throughout the park for musicians of all levels and genres. No performances, no microphones, just a relaxed gathering of musicians. July 16th: Mountain Bike Race- Southeastern Regional Championship Series cross-country mountain bike race, sanctioned by the National Off-Road Bicycle Association, will be held July 16 along the Tanasi Trial System at the Ocoee With water Center. July 19-30th: Georgia Mountain Fair- the Georgia mountain Fair, at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee will be held July 19-30; admission each day is $8, with children 10 and under free; $2 for parking. Times: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 19-21, 24-28, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m July 22 and 29; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m July 23 and 30. Activities include carnival rider, arts and crafts and concerts. July 21-22nd: Butternut Creek- Eighth annual Butternut Creek Arts and Crafts Festival will be held July 21-22, at Meeks Park in Blairsville, from 10 a.m. to the 5 p.m each day. July 24-31st: “Foxfire”- “Foxfire”, a play by Hume Cronyn and Susan Short, will be presented at the Blue Ridge Community Theater in the Hampton Square in downtown Blue Ridge July 28 through August 20. August 26-27th – Hiawassee Festival of Arts, a juried fine arts and crafts show at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. October 6-15th – Georgia Mountain Fall Festival at Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee. Daily crafts and exhibit hours are 10am to 8pm weekdays and Saturdays and 10am to 6pm Sundays. October 14-15 and 21-22 – 35th annual Georgia Apple Festival at the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds, south of Ellijay, off Hwy 5, from 9am to 6pm Saturdays and 9am to 5pm Sundays. Activities include a car show and parade. Admission is $5 for adults; children 10 and under are free. Parking is free. No pets allowed except for service animals. October 21-22 – Gold Rush days in downtown Dahlonega to celebrate the discovery of gold in 1828. More than 300 arts and crafts exhibitors are expected.
